Breathing
The most important thing that you take away from your first few yoga classes is the ability to breath correctly. A true yoga breath lowers your blood pressure, calms your mind and relaxes your body. “You feel so much better.” Try this exercise…..sit , lie or stand in a comfortable position. Make sure your back is straight, your head is relaxed. Imagine a string at the crown of your head….lifting you ever so gently.
Exhale..through your mouth…now take a deep breath in through your nose, pushing your belly out and counting to 4.
Now exhale..through your nose counting to 8.
Continue to breath this way, using your diaphragm muscle as you push your belly out..Feel your rib cage lift slightly and your chest. It’s a 3 step breath!!(belly, rib cage and chest lifting) try and practice this breath work any chance you get. Whether you’re out walking….driving….or trying to get back to sleep in the middle of the night..It works!!!As you get comfortable with your breathing you can increase the number as you inhale, just remember to double that number as you exhale. Your lungs and heart will thank you!
