Spicy Homemade Lemon Ginger Ale

I’m heading out of town to do some kayaking, so there won’t be any yoga tonight…But, there’s still lots more of summer, so keep posted.

With all this great warm weather I’m reminded of my father-‐in-‐law. He often talked about his mom, Maggie’s homemade ginger ale. Years ago homemade was all there was….I did  find this wonderful summer-‐time recipe which I thought  I’d share….even though we can buy it at the corner store now.

Spicy” Homemade” lemon ginger ale:

Indredients

1 1/4 cups fresh chopped ginger

3 strips of lemon zest

1 cup of sugar (I use sugar cane)

2 cups water

To Prepare

In a medium saucepan, put all ingredients ans bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer; cook for 10 mins. Remove from heat; let stand 30 mins. Strain through a sieve into a bowl. Cool ginger syrup and place in a mason jar. Refrigerate until ready to use.

To serve….

In a nice tall glass, put 2oz of ginger syrup with 6 oz of soda water, and 2 tsps of fresh squeezed lemon juice. Add ice and garnish with fresh mint and lots of lemon slices…yum…(this mixture will make 6 tall glasses…

Enjoy!!
